10月12日，被誉为“中国杂交水稻之父”的袁隆平在长沙接受采访时飚英语，惊艳众人（戳这里回顾）。看完袁爷爷的英文采访，不少网友表示：学会一个英文词，hybrid rice“杂交水稻”！ 在采访中，袁隆平表示，退休对他来说是不存在的，退休后没事做反而会有失落感。他还寄语年轻人，理想要高雅一点，而不是向钱看。当然可以赚钱，但要能赚对社会、对老百姓有益的钱。
Yuan Longping, known as China’s “father of hybrid rice”, recently amazed people with his English skills during an English-language interview with the press in Changsha on Oct 12. In the interview, Yuan said he has no plan to retire because it would be depressing if he had nothing to do. He has encouraged young people to have noble ideals and make positive contributions to society.
马上学：Hybrid表示“杂交种”，a hybrid of wheat and rye (小麦和黑麦的杂交体)，也可以表示“混合体”，如hybrid architecture(具有混合风格的建筑体)。Hybrid car指“混合动力汽车”。

10月13日，据受理孙杨兴奋剂案件的张起淮律师在微博上确认，国际体育仲裁法庭（CAS）将于2019年11月15日在瑞士蒙特勒举行听证会，应孙杨要求，届时将允许媒体及公众进入听证现场旁听。（戳这里回顾）
“在CAS裁决运动员案件的历史中，此前只有过一次公开开庭审理。孙杨坚决要求公开开庭审理，表达的既是决心也是信心。”张起淮说。
Chinese Olympic champion Sun Yang will face a Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing on Nov 15, and it will be an open hearing as he had demanded, Zhang Qihuai, Sun's legal representative, said. The court will hold a hearing for Sun in Montreux, Switzerland, and the media and the public will be allowed to attend the hearing, Zhang said on his Sina Weibo account on Sunday night.
"In the history of CAS, there has been only one public trial before," Zhang said. "Sun insisted on a public trial to express both determination and confidence."

国务院新闻办10月14日发表《中国的粮食安全》白皮书。白皮书指出，70年来，在中国共产党领导下，经过艰苦奋斗和不懈努力，中国在农业基础十分薄弱、人民生活极端贫困的基础上，依靠自己的力量实现了粮食基本自给。但从中长期看，中国的粮食产需仍将维持紧平衡态势，确保国家粮食安全这根弦一刻也不能放松。
The State Council Information Office on Monday issued a white paper titled "Food Security in China". Despite a weak agricultural foundation and extreme poverty, the Communist Party of China has led an unremitting campaign of hard work over the past 70 years that has made China basically self-sufficient in food supply, said the white paper. However, the paper noted that in the medium to long term, China's grain production and demand will remain closely aligned, which means China must not slacken its efforts to ensure food security.
白皮书约1.2万字，分为前言、中国粮食安全成就、中国特色粮食安全之路、对外开放与国际合作、未来展望与政策主张、结束语等6部分。白皮书全面总结反映了我国粮食安全取得的历史性成就，重点阐述了1996年特别是党的十八大以来我国在保障粮食安全方面实施的一系列方针政策和举措办法，介绍了中国粮食对外开放和国际合作的原则立场，并提出了未来中国粮食问题的政策主张。
